Guatemala 2012
Missionary Trips
H.O.M.E., Inc. to make annual missionary
trip to San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala, in the spring
of 2012
Volunteers to travel with us and financial donations are needed to support HOME on its humanitarian mission.
H.O.M.E.,
Inc., a non-profit in Orland, Maine, sponsors trips each year
to its sister Emmaus community in San Juan Comalapa,
Chimaltenango, Guatemala.
These
learning/helping trips have been a semi-annual venture since
the late 80’s when the “sanctuary movement” helped Guatemalan
refugees escape the violence there.
Miguel Tuc Tuc
Telon became an integral part of the H.O.M.E. community for
the next seven years.
He and
H.O.M.E.’s founder, Sister Lucy Poulin, went on to help build
a sister community, Emmaus, San Juan, which has effectively
supported the struggles of the indigenous Cakchiquel.
Hurricane
devastation in the central highlands of Guatemala in 2010
has brought homelessness and starvation to the area increasing
the need for humanitarian efforts.
H.O.M.E.
supports this village with annual financial donations, the
mission trips each year, and organizing the collection of
clothing and shoes for those in desperate need.
WE NEED DONATIONS IN THE FORM OF
boys’ and men’s
clothing, shoes, medicines, and personal care items, school
supplies, toys
and cash (it’s easier to buy some things
once we are there).
